How to Skin!
Materials: Adobe Photoshop Cs2, The plugin for adobe(both cs2 and plugin are in the programs for skinning on this site), You also need the "shared.map", "Mainmenu.map", and and single_player.map(these .maps are hard to find so when I find them I will post links in this Topic...I got them from a website that is no more...Now here are all the maps new and old and some of the games maps for Campain, www.akautorentals.com/Download/Modding/Original_Maps/ ), and you also need dothalo. Thats all the materials now heres the tut!
1. Get all the materials listed above!(all materials are conviently located on this site)
2.Once adobe is installed press "start", "My Computer", Then click on the "local disc drive (C:)."
3. In the Local disc drive (C:) you will see a folder called "Programs".
4. Double clik the programs folder and inside that folder you should see a folder that says "adobe" double clik it.
5. In the adobe folder you should see another folder called "Adobe Photoshop Cs2", double click that.
6. In the adobe photoshop cs2 folder you should see one that says "Plug-Ins", double click it.
7.In the plug-ins folder you should see a folder that says "File Formats" double click that.
8.In the "File formats" , is where youll see a bunch of plugins. copy and paste the adobe photoshop cs2 plugin listed in the materials(its in the programs/for skinning branch of the site, its called .dds)
9. Once the adobe plugin is in the "file formats" folder, you can now close the my computer window.
10. Your going to need a folder that contains the map your skinning and the 3 special maps labled Shared.map, Single_Player.map, and Mainmenu.map. Make sure all these .map files are in the same folder.(if you dont have those three wierd .map files, i think they might be on here if not i will update this and give you a website where you can get them!!)
11.Once you've got all those .maps in the same folder its highly recomended that you create a folder in your my documents called "Current Skin files" so you have a place where you will know where to put the skin files that will come later in this tut.
12. Now open dothalo and the map you wish to skin.
13. Then got to the "Tags" window, and double click the (bitm) Bitmap tag.
14. Once you double click the bitm tag you will see all the files that bungie used to skin the maps, however the only ones that can be edited without any problems are the ones that beging in "Scenarios" .Example: "scenarios/bitmaps/backwash/base_door"
15. I recomend skinning all the scenarios in a row! so click on the first scenario that you see.
16. now go to the "Raw Data Editor" window, and on the bottom of that window you should see two buttons; one says "Extract", and the other says "inject".
17. Click Extract, and a window will then pop up, in this window i want you to double click the folder i had you make in step {11} called "Current Skin Files".( KEEP DOT HALO OPEN )
18. save the file into that folder and then open adobe photoshop.
19 In adobe photoshop i want you to press file then open then find the file you just extracted and double clik it.
20. Now is the Part where you show your artistic skills so i cant help you with that part just have fun with the photoshop tools.
21. Once your done with your art work on that file click file then save and a window may pop up that looks similar to a "My documents" window. If that pops up make sure the file format is a (.dds) then press save and another window will pop up that says "NVIDIA dds format".
22. In this window the only options you want to look at is the "save Format" branch(its on the top left and gives you the options to dxt1 or dxt2 so on and so forth)
23. Now to decide which dxt format to save it as you need to go to dothalo and remember during the skinning proccess the dothalo should never be closed. So that being sayd now what you do is make sure the raw data editor still has the file you skinned open and then on the top of that picture you should see something that says "Format" and to the right of the word format it will say what dxt file format it is. ex. dxt1.
24. Once you find out the dxt format it is go back to the adobe window and choose wichever dxt the file is.( for any dxt1 i always use the one bit alpha).
25.then once its saved go back into the raw data editor in the dothalo and now instead of hitting extract you will hit "inject" then inject the edited version and do the same for all the scenarios you wish to edit.
